Aquamask - leather mask. by xothique Aquamask - leather mask. by xothique
Latest mask - made to the same pattern as 'Valerian', though altered very slightly. This is the result of my experiments with airbrushing leather dyes. I was aiming for a rippled water effect - though I think this look would be equally effective as flames in reds and oranges.

gorgeous! this is magnificent. great job on the rippled water efffect, i especially love the gold tips on the end of the points. it adds a nice, ethereal touch to it, without looking gaudy. love it!

Meep! Sorry for the tardy response!
It's not on Etsy yet - but it should be available on my website later today or tomorrow - and I'm also in the process of having a 'Midsummer Madness' sale on many of my other mask designs - check tomorrow for the updated prices. :D

Ooo I'll keep my eyes peeled then! I'll be away all weekend (having a party on a beach, how stressful for me...), but I'll definitely check at some point. :D

Wow that's awesome, even better for me being able to visualise how it looks now ;) It definitely has a water-like effect, that's the first thing I thought of when I saw it. You could also try adding a bit of white to it too as an experiment, as water of has a tiny bit of white in (and would improve the contrast). I think it looks perfect though! I also love the purple at the very tips, it goes very well with the gold in a strange sort of way.

*hops off to Etsy :D*

Ohh - nice idea - white highlights, like sunlight sparkling on water. I really like that, and might have to experiment a bit with my airbrushing techniques. Yay!

That's the best image I could find to illustrate what I'm thinking of: [link]
...Even better, add sparkles too :D *obsesses over glittery things*

Oooh.. I like that image, and I can see how it would work.
:D I have some swarovski crystals that I've added to papier-mache masks in the past - they sparkle really well. I've refrained from adding them to the leather so far, as I am not sure how well they would stick - and have been a bit reluctant to ruin the surface...
I'm clearly going to have to have a day experimenting with special effects.

I don't know much about leather but I'm not sure that would work unless you have flat crystals or dig a hole in the leather to put them in. You could hang them off the edges maybe? You should definitely have a special effects day though, it might inspire you. Besides, it's a good excuse to buy lots of obscure (and possibly shiny) things :D

You definitely pulled off the effect. If definitely has a wet look, and the light reflections look like streaks of sunlight on a pool of water. Very nice.
